THE HISTORY OF AERO SPHERE

Aero Sphere began it's journey on November 1st, 2013, in Stellenbosch, founded by Jason Grey, a commercial helicopter pilot with a passion for high-performance apparel, eyewear, and optics.

Originally conceived as Aerospace, the brand faced a legal hurdle that led to a rebranding, resulting in the name Aero Sphere. This new identity resonated with downhill MTB communities in California and the UK, and its appeal quickly expanded to extreme sports enthusiasts globally. The brand’s connection to flight and adventure forged a strong bond within this dynamic community.

The pivotal year of 2017 marked a key moment when Grey collaborated with brand ambassador Josh Bull to explore the integration of technical eyewear into the apparel lineup. What started as a concept for downhill MTB goggles quickly captured attention with sold-out demos on Instagram. This success steered Aero Sphere into the eyewear market, sparking a deep, two-year exploration into advanced lens technology by Grey.

Working closely with a renowned 20-year lens technologist, their commitment to optical excellence became the cornerstone of the brand’s development. The result was the creation of five signature frames – Airborne, Slipstream, Vortex, Phantom, and Nanotech. The MKII followed as a second-generation version of the best-selling Martial frame, with new models and lenses continually expanding the product range.
